GREEN AWARDS / RECOGNITION

ENERGY STAR®
1225 North Loop West is the proud recipient of the 2011 ENERGY STAR Award. The building earned its first ENERGY STAR Award in 2010.

How do buildings earn the ENERGY STAR label? An engineer or building representative provides the property’s energy consumption data. EPA compares energy use among other, similar types of buildings on a scale of 1 - 100, accounting for differences in operating conditions and regional weather data. Commercial buildings that score 75 or higher and complete the verification process are eligible to display the ENERGY STAR label. This means that a building that has earned the ENERGY STAR label is performing better than 75% of its peers in regards to energy efficiency.

Why is it important to carry the ENERGY STAR label? The label shows that the building has met the EPA’s strict energy performance standards, is less expensive to operate, and causes fewer greenhouse gas emissions than its peers.

EPA GREEN POWER PARTNER
1225 N Loop W is a proud EPA Green Power Partner. With more than 50% of the building’s electricity coming from renewable wind sources, 1225 N Loop W easily meets EPA Green Power Partnership requirements. The building's purchase of green power also avoids the release of 480,209 pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere each year. EPA’s Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program aimed at increasing the use of green power among leading U.S. organizations.

CLEANER+GREENER® PROGRAM
1225 N Loop W was accepted into the Leonardo Academy Cleaner+Greener® Program for Single Buildings in 2011. Participation involves documenting building emission reductions resulting from energy efficiency and other actions and reporting energy use to the Academy. Buildings that demonstrate reduced energy consumption and emissions reductions are accepted into the program.

The Leonardo Academy confirmed that the building’s use of programs and features such as energy efficient light fixtures, an automated system which controls the HVAC system, and a strict preventive maintenance program reduced electrical consumption by 2.5 million kWh  compared to the national average. The Cleaner+Greener program also recognized 1225 N Loop W for its reduction of environmental emissions through the use of renewable energy. Altogether, these energy savings prevented the release of more than 3,089 tons of environmental emissions. According to Cleaner+Greener calculations, 1225 N Loop W consumes 40% less energy than its peers.

GREEN PROGRAMS

GREEN CLEANING
The janitorial contractor provides a site-specific, documented green cleaning program that includes the use of green cleaning procedures, chemicals, equipment, and consumable janitorial supplies.

INTEGRATED PEST CONTROL MANAGEMENT
This program focuses on structural integrity, sanitation, and monitoring. Chemical control measures, implemented as a last resort, employ least toxic materials applied only where appropriate and exclude blanket pesticide application.

TRAFFIC REDUCTION INITIATIVES
A bike rack and motorcycle pad are located on level one of the parking garage. 3 free, prime parking garage spots are designated for hybrid vehicles on a first come, first serve basis.

RECYCLING PROGRAMS:
PAPER & CARDBOARD
Instituted in August 2010, the building’s recycling program recaptures paper and corrugated cardboard. Since the program’s inception, the building has recycled 43.17 short tons, or 86,300 pounds of material.

BUILDING RECYCLING CENTER
The 1225 N Loop W Recycling Center is located in the property management office, suite 225. Everyone is welcome to drop-off cell phones, ink cartridges, electronics, light bulbs, batteries, and computer components for recycling year-round.
